Tral Encounter: Clashes erupt in Palhallan; CUK witnesses student protests

Srinagar: Intense clashes have erupted in Baramulla’s Palhallan town soon after news reached the area that top Hizb ul Mujahideen commander, Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, has been killed in an encounter with forces in Tral.

A local youth told the FreePressKashmir that people came out on roads in protest against the killing of the militant commander.

“Hundreds of forces personnel have entered the area to block the anti-India protests,” he said without his real identity.

“The youth are engaged in stone pelting battle with the armed forces who are firing tear gas canisters,” the youth added. “There is complete shutdown in the area.”

Sabzar, along with a teenage Faizan Ahmad, were killed in the encounter in Saimoo village of Tral this morning. The duo belongs to main town Tral.

Meanwhile, reports coming from Srinagar’s Nowgam area said that students of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) held protests against the killing of the top militant commander. “The main gate of the CUK Nowgam campus was locked as students held protest inside the campus,” a student, name withheld, said.
