Sabzar Killing Backlash: Hurriyat Conference leaders detained, Malik shifted to central jail

Srinagar: J&K Government has detained several Hurriyat Conference leaders in their respective homes while as JKLF chief has been shifted to Central Jail Srinagar on Sunday.

The steps, security officials said, have been taken in view of the prevailing situation in Kashmir valley.

Speaking to the FreePressKashmir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) (G) spokesperson, Ayaz Akbar, said, “the authorities have detained Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Peer Saifullah, Muhammad Ashraf Laya and himself in our respective homes.”

Kashmir valley is observing a complete shutdown against the killing of two militants including top Hizb ul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat in Saimoo village of Tral on Saturday morning.

One civilian was killed during protests after the death of Sabzar and his aide Faizan Muzaffar Bhat in forces action in Tral. At least 60 civilians were injured in South Kashmir yesterday during protests.

Sabzar was said to be close aide of popular Hizb ul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani whose death on July 08, 2016 triggered months-long massive public uprising.

APHC chief and Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani is under going house detention at his Hyderpora home for most of time since 2010.

“I have don’t much information because the phone lines and internet services have been snapped,” Akbar added.

He said that three members of Geelani led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat including Raja Mehraj ud Din Kalwal, Umer Adil Dar and Rameez Raja participated in the funeral prayers of Sabzar who was laid to rest in his native village of Rathsuna this morning.

Authorities have detained Hurriyat Conference (M) chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in his Nigeen residence. “Mirwaiz sahib was put under house detention early Sunday morning to prevent him from reaching out to masses,” a leader from the Hurriyat Conference amalgam said.

Another Hurriyat Conference (M) member and chairman of People’s Political Party (PPP), Hilal Ahmad War, was also arrested today from Maisuma area of Srinagar.

He has been lodged in police station Maisuma following his arrest.

Soon after news spread that slain Burhan’s close aide Sabzar Ahmad Bhat died fighting forces in Tral in an encounter, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik travelled to the town along with an activist, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat.

He expressed his condolences to the family of Hizb commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat and his aide Faizan.

“Martydom of Sabzar Ahmad Butt [Bhat] and his associates has trodden the hearts and souls of every Kashmiri. Struggle of this great soul against illegal occupation and oppression will be always remembered and cherished by Kashmiris,” said Malik while addressing thousands of bereaved people at Ratsuna – native village of Bhat.

“At the arrival of sacred month of Ramzan, our hearts and souls have been pierced by Indian bullets and lives of many of our young brave hearts have been snatched by the occupational forces,” he told the mourners. “Sabzar like his friend Burhan Muzaffar Wani was a brave son of soil infused new life in our resistance movement.”

from he was arrested by police this morning. He has been shifted to Central Jail Srinagar.

Following spontaneous shutdown on Saturday after the death of Sabzar and Faizan, the joint resistance leadership: Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik called for shutdown in Kashmir on Sunday and Monday while people have been asked to march towards Tral on Tuesday to express sympathies with bereaved families.

The J&K Government clamped down on mobile and internet facilities while as curfew has been imposed in most parts to prevent people from holding protests.
