Aunt of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq passes away in Pakistan

Srinagar: The daughter of late Moulvi Noor-ud-Din Shah (RA) passed away in Islamabad, Pakistan on Sunday – the 15th of Ramzan.

Wife of late Muhammad Afzal Shawl, the deceased was aunt of Hurriyat Conference (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a statement issued by the Hurriyat Conference amalgam said.

Moulvi Noor-ud-Din Shah was a senior leader of the Muslim Conference and was serving a prison sentence at the time of partition of Indian sub-continent in 1947 for his political ideology.

After creation of Pakistan, he was straight-way deported by the authorities from jail to Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) along with his wife and his little children.

“… and like Muhajir-e-Millat Mirwaiz Maulana Yousuf Shah, who had also been exiled to PaK, Noor-ud-Din Shah was declared an enemy agent by the Indian and state government,” the statement said.

The statement informed that Awami Action Committee (AAC) – the party represented by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in the Hurriyat Conference (M) – said, “it is tragedy of Kashmir that an artificial line was drawn through our land and thousands of families including the family of Mirwaizeen were divided and made to suffer, not even allowed to meet each other, even in times of grief.”

“It is unfortunate that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq cannot visit his family and share their grief in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan as his passport stands impounded,” the statement informed.
“Similarly when Shaheed-e-Millat was martyred his grieving sister uncles and close relatives were barred by the government of India from coming to Kashmir to console the family,” it added.

The AAC members offered special Fatiha prayers for the departed soul, the statement said.
