Arwani encounter: Bodies of three slain militants recovered; Army thrashes people in Shopian

Srinagar: Three bodies of slain militants have been recovered from an encounter site in Kulgam district on Saturday morning.

The gun fight between militants and Indian armed forces started on Friday morning. Three houses were razed to ground by the forces, however, the bodies were recovered this morning.

“Three bodies of the slain militants have been recovered,” Srinagar based defence spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kalia, told the FreePressKashmir.

Two civilians were shot dead by the armed forces when thousands of people tried to disrupt the cordon and search operation (CASO) laid by forces around Malik Mohalla of Arwani where the militants were staying.

At least twenty five other civilians were injured as youth attacked the joint military operation by stones.

Indian army’s Ist RR, 90th battalion of CRPF and cops of J&K police including those of SOG were included in the joint operation.

The slain militants have been identified as Junaid Ahmad Mattoo of Khudwani Kulgam, Nasir Ahmad of Shopian and Adil Mir of Frestbal Pampore.

Kashmir valley is observing a complete shutdown today against the civilian killings on the call of joint resistance leadership.

Meanwhile, Indian army and SOG personnel injured at least twenty persons in a hamlet in Shopian district.

The locals of Turkewangam area of the district said that teh ared forces vandalised the private property and beat people ruthlessly.

The forces personnel raided the village around last mid-night.

They barged into the houses and broke their window panes and other essentials.

In the forces action, many people were injured who were rushed to local health facilities.

It is second incident in last week that people of Turkewangam have alleged the forces highhandedness.
