Kashmiri Journalist, assaulted in Delhi, details the incident in this ‘Caravan’ piece
Srinagar: A Kashmiri journalist was thrashed by Hindu goons in Delhi. The incident took place on June 09.
Basit Malik works as an intern with The Caravan – a monthly magazine – based in Delhi.
Malik said that he was assaulted by Hindu fanatics for being a Muslim.
When the incident happened, Basit was working on a story in Sonia Vihar area of Delhi.
He was dragged, kicked, punched and slapped by the Hindu mob for being a Kashmiri Muslim.
The attackers made videos of assault on Basit while he was asked to repeat: “Pakistan murdabad!” and “Hindustan zindabad!”
“During this entire ordeal, which lasted for an hour and a half, I was surrounded at all times. People from the mob would angrily kick and slap me. I was continuously yelled at, and called various names, such as “mullah,” “Pakistani,” and “aatankwadi”,” Basit narrates in The Caravan.
He belongs to Anantnag district of Kashmir division. He studied matriculation from DPS Srinagar before moving to Delhi wherefrom he completed Bachelors degree as a student of St Stephen’s College.
