Pantha Chowk attack: CRPF officer killed, two others injured

Srinagar: An injured officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has succumbed to his injuries while two others were injured in a suspected militant attack on their vehicle in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar on Saturday evening.

A CRPF vehicle from 190th battalion (Alpha company) came under fire from militants along Srinagar-Jammu highway today.

A civilian was also injured in the attack, PRO CRPF, Rajesh Yadav, said.

“Sub-inspector Shukla and constable Nisar Ahmad, who is driver of the vehicle, were injured and rushed to the Army’s 92 base hospital,” Yadav told the FreePressKashmir.

“SI Shukla succumbed to his injuries,” he added.

Yadav had no further information about the civilian injured in the militant attack.

CRFP Inspector General Ravideep Sahi said that they cordoned off the whole area and launched search operations.

“The militants fired at the vehicle from one side of the road injuring three CRPF men,” Inspector General (IG) Operations of the CRPF in Kashmir, Zulfiqar Hassan said. “The injured have been shifted the Army’s 92 base hospital.”

The CRPF vehicle was part of the patrol party along the vital highway.
