How are you planning to extend 101 Amendment to state, Rigzin Jora asks Govt

‘Should have brought in own law regarding GST’

Srinagar: Congress lawmaker Nawang Rigzin Jora while speaking to the assembly during the special session on the Goods And Services Tax (GST) implementation asked the government how they were planning to extend the 101 amendment of the Indian constitution as under section 12 of the state constitution, no amendment can be extended to the state.

He also pointed out that the way Value Added Tax (VAT) was rolled out in the state, “it could have been done with GST also if an ‘own’ law was brought in for the state.”

“This should have been a smooth roll-out as it is one India one tax. But here it’s more chaotic. The way VAT was rolled out in the country as well as in our state without any glitches; same should have been done with GST too,” Jora said.

He added, “Under section 5, we should have brought in our law regarding the implementation of the GST.”
