Burhan’s death rekindled the freedom spirit in Kashmir: Dal Khalsa

Amritsar: Dal Khalsa Party leaders, H S Dhami and Kanwar Pal Singh while paying their respects to the slain Hizb commander, Burhan Wani, on Saturday said Kashmir’s brave-heart’s martyrdom has ‘infused new life in the movement’.

Dal Khalsa is a Sikh organisation, based in the city of Amritsar. The organisation was formed in 1978 and came to prominence under the inspiration and time of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in 1981. They claim that the primary aim of Dal Khalsa is to achieve the independence of the Punjabi-speaking Sikh majority region of North West India through peaceful and democratic means in order to establish a sovereign Sikh state, Khalistan.

“Burhan Wani’s death was the spark that was needed to rekindle the spirit for freedom in Kashmir,” they said.

“Burhan reverberates in the minds and emotions of the Kashmiri people, who love him, admire him and cherish his contribution to the just cause,” they added.

Expressing solidarity with the people of Kashmir, the leaders of pro-Sikh freedom group said the people of Punjab share the pain and concerns of their next door neighbours.

They urged the world powers to break their studied silence, rise above their commercial interests and intervene to resolve the Kashmir dispute by granting the people their right to self-determination.
