3 militants killed in Tral gunfight, 1 believed to be trapped inside cave

Srinagar: Three militants have been killed in an encounter between the Indian Armed Forces and the militants in Satora area of Tral in South Kashmir on Saturday, Police said.

One more militant is believed to be holed up inside a cave on a hillock, added the police.

Since morning, the militants and the Indian armed forces were engaged in a fierce encounter in the Pulwama district.

Police said that the Tral encounter was still on.

According to the police, earlier in the day, troops of 180 Battalion Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF), 42 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) Tral, acting on the information of presence of militants went for a cordon and search operation (CASO).

“The gunfight going on in the forest area of Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has ended with the killing of third militant,” police said.

A police official said that third militant who was trapped in a cave in Satura forests has been killed, taking the death toll to three. He said three bodies have been recovered and searches are going on.

The identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, the official added.
