Girls should participate in self defense training: Asiea Naqash

Srinagar: A week long self defense camp for girls of the district concluded at the Indoor stadium, on Sunday.

International Marshal Arts Player Mansha Bashir trained the girls with different techniques of Self defence through Marshal Arts.

A total of 300 girls from district Srinagar participated in this camp which was organized by Jammu & Kashmir State Sports Council.

The Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education Asiea Naqash was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Addressing the participants, the Minister said that on the directions from Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, such types of co-curricular activities are being conducted across the state. She further said that apart from their studies, girls should actively participate in such programmes.

The Minister also distributed prizes among the girls.

Back in November, 2016, Tajamul Islam, who hails from Bandipora district in Jammu and Kashmir, fought against the best boxers in sub junior category from ninety countries.

She won six games over five days and lifted gold medal after defeating a rival from the United States to become the world champion.

Speaking to reporters, she had said though she had taken part in international competitions earlier, she was nervous, as the best boxers of the world were taking part.

Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir State Sports Council Waheed-u-Rehman Parra, senior officers of JK Sports Council, trainers and parents of trainees were also present on the occasion.
