Killing of ‘martyrs’, Kashmiri Pandits due to Article 370: Shiv Sena

New Delhi: Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena leader, on Tuesday said that it was the ‘right time’ to remove Article 370 which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Raut said that troopers and Kashmiri Pandits are being killed due to Article 370.

“Now, it is time to take a decision to remove Article 370, granting special status to Kashmir. This is against the unity of the nation. Killing of martyrs and Kashmiri Pandits are due to Article 370. It’s the responsibility of Prime Minister and President to take a decision on this,” he told a news agency.

Shiv Sena is a far right party based in the state of Maharashtra who believe that people of the state (Marathi speaking) should be given preferential treatment. They also believe in the idea of ‘Hindutva’, the ideology which believes that India should be declared a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ (Nation for Hindus only).

It was founded by Bal Thakery who during his life time was accused of spreading hatred against the minorities and non-marathi speaking people. His funeral was also controversial as he was accorded a ‘state funeral’ with full honours despite being accused of spreading hatred among people.

The party has been a coalition partner in the National Democratic Alliance since 1998, including the Vajpayee Government during 1998–2004 and the present Narendra Modi Government.

The party has been called ‘racist’, ‘chauvinist’ and even ‘fascist’.
