New Delhi: A 32-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband in south west Delhi’s Kapashera area, police said today.
The woman killed her husband on July 22 and slept besides the body for two days. On the third day, she told her neighbours that her husband had suffered a cardiac arrest, they said.
The neighbours, who smelled something fishy, informed the police and the woman was arrested.
The woman confessed to her crime and said she killed her husband as he used to often beat her, police added.
Pertinently, it is important to note that reports of violence against women in India have been on the rise.
The Guardian in 2012 had reported about a woman stripped naked and her head shaved by villagers near Udaipur as punishment for an extramarital affair. Villagers had stoned the police when they came to the rescue. The report further mentioned a woman in Uttar Pradesh alleging that she was gang raped at a police station – she claimed she was set on by officers after being lured to the Kushinagar station with the promise of a job.
“A man in Indore was arrested for keeping his wife’s genitals locked. Sohanlal Chouhan, 38, “drilled holes” on her body and, before he went to work each day, would insert a small lock, tucking the keys under his socks. “
According to a Hindustan Times report, the woman is identified as Shilpi Adhikari. Adhikari killed her husband after his usual round of heavy drinking on Saturday.
Not sure about what to do with the body, she reportedly slept near it for two nights before telling her neighbours on Monday that her husband had died a natural death.
