Srinagar: Al-Qaeda’s militant commander Zakir Musa on Friday has allegedly claimed that Abu Dujana was the “first martyr” in the ‘war for an Islamic Kashmir’ and had helped set up an Al-Qaeda cell in India.

Zakir Rashid Bhat, nicknamed Zakir Musa, is a Kashmiri militant. He was appointed “commander” after the encounter of former commander of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Burhan Muzaffar Wani by the Indian Armed forces, which led to the 2016 Kashmir Unrest.

In July 2017, The Tribune, an online news agency, claimed that Zakir Musa was named as the head of the newly created outfit called Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, a newly created cell of al-Qaeda.

Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Kashmir militant commander Abu Dujana, was killed by Indian Armed Forces during an encounter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning. Dujana’s aide Arif was also killed in the operation.

A fierce gunfight had broken out between militants and forces in Hakripora village of Pulwama district in southern part of Kashmir on Tuesday morning.

Musa, a hardline militant, said in a purported statement on Friday that Dujana and Arif Lelhari, both of whom were killed by the armed forces on August 1, had left the Lashkar-e-Taiba to join the al-Qaeda.

State director general of police SP Vaid said there was no way of authenticating the audio clips but added there were reports suggesting Musa and Dujana were close.

Dujana’s killing has been termed a “huge achievement” by state police battling hardened militants including Musa.

A B.Tech student, Musa joined Hizbul Mujahideen after leaving his studies midway and was a close associate of Burhan Wani.

Abu Dujana who was operating in Kashmir from last seven years was one of the most wanted militants, who raised as LeT’s Kashmir commander, carrying 15 lakhs rupees reward on his head.
