Sopore gunfight: Slain militant was a B. Com student at Islamia college

Srinagar: Mild clashes erupted between Indian Armed Forces and students of Islamia College of Science and Commerce in Srinagar after the news about the killing of militant of Hajin spread in the premises.

Identified as Abid Hamid Mir of Hajin Bandipora, he was a student of the college and was a second year student of B.Com at Islamia college.

According to reports, the students assembled in the premises of the college and started marching, raising slogans in favor of Azadi (freedom) and against India.

Reports said that scores of students later tried to move out of the college. However, a posse of police stationed outside the college intercepted them, triggering clashes.

According to a report in Greater Kashmir, a daily newspaper based in Srinagar, the college administration intervened and pacified the protesting students.

Though the college has not be shut officially, however, majority of the students have left the college.

At least three youth were injured after the Indian Armed Forces opened fire in Saderkoot Bala area of district Bandipora on Saturday.

Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed today in a gunfight with the Indian Armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore town.

The injured have been identified as Hilal Ahmed Wani, Latief Ahmed Khan and Suhail Ahmed Bhat from Sadrekoot, Bala.
