Confident that the Supreme Court will reject plea against 35-A: Mehbooba

Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday expressed hope and confidence that the Supereme Court of India will reject the plea challenging the Article 35-A.

The Article defines who is a permanent resident of the state and confers special status on the state subjects.

While addressing people on the August 15 in Srinagar, Mehbooba said, “I have full confidence that our Supreme Court will again dismiss this plea challenging Article 35-A of the Constitution in the same way as the apex court had done in these 70 years.”

A plea filed by an NGO ‘backed’ by Right wing forces has challenged the legality of the Article 35-A. Moreover, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which is the coalition partner of the ruling PDP in the state, recently said that it’s time that the people of the state bid goodbye to the Article 35-A and Article 370.

The BJP maintained that both the Articles have created ‘separatist sentiment’ in the state.
