SRINAGAR: India’s central agency established to combat terror, National Investigation Agency (NIA), Wednesday raided at least 16 locations in Kashmir and Delhi on traders who were allegedly indulging in hawala operations and using the money for ‘funding terror’ and ‘separatist activities’, officials said.

Officers of the National Investigation Agency swooped down on traders at various parts of Srinagar and North Kashmir this morning and carried out extensive search operations at suspected locations, reports said.

Continuing its ongoing probe into the alleged terror funding case as many as five traders in old Delhi were also raided by the NIA officials.

The raids come a day after the NIA arrested two persons, including a freelance photo-journalist, who had allegedly indulged in stone pelting and mobilised support against Indian military through social media.

NIA also claimed to have arrested two alleged stone-pelters Kamran Yusuf and Javid Ahmed Bhat, said to be arrested from Pulwama and Kulgam districts. The NIA officials said that both were involved in several incidents of stone pelting and their names came up during the investigation.

The Agency has arrested seven individuals till now, Resistance leaders and businessmen included.

On Tuesday Kashmiri lawyers held protests against NIA for issuing summon to JK High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) president, Mian Qayoom.

The cases range from causing disruption in the Valley by stone pelting, burning schools, damaging public property to ‘waging war’ against India.
