Srinagar: Three civilians were killed and more than 20 injured, including policemen, when an unidentified person hurled a grenade towards a police party in Tral of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Reports say that the attack was actually aimed at PWD minister Naeem Akhter’s motorcade when it was moving through the town.

The death toll of the civilians in the Tral grenade attack has gone up to three, reports said. There is at least one more person who is stated to be seriously injured.

The slain civilians were identified as Pinty Kour, Ghulam Nabi Trag and Mohammad Iqbal Khan.

Roads and Building Minister, Nayeem Akthar, was in Tral at the time of the attack. He had inaugurated a project in the town and was on his way to inaugurating another one.

Locals alleged that the Indian Armed Forces opened fire on the civilians. Some of the injuries reported in the hospital, according to locals, were pellet injuries.

Reports said that after the injured were shifted, there were protests in Tral. Locals said the police and paramilitary men opened fire on the civilians. Details of the ammunition that police and paramilitary forces used in the aftermath of the attack were not immediately known.

“Some of the injured admitted to SMHS are having pellet injuries as well,” a report in Kashmir Life, a weekly magazine based in Srinagar, said.

One of the injured persons told Free Press Kashmir on phone that the attack shook the whole ground and they feel lucky to be alive. The injured was currently being taken for a CT scan and had head injuries.
