Video: Panicked Kulgam locals allege army involvement in Choti Cutter incidents

Kulgam: People in the Kulgam district of Kashmir Valley held protest demonstrations over dozens of braid-chopping incidents which has left the local population in a state of panic.

The locals also protested over the involvement of the Indian Army who allegedly rescued a suspected ‘Choti cutter’ whom the residents of Chimmer village had caught. The locals also alleged that the Army resorted to aerial firing of hundreds of live bullets while fleeing with the suspect.

Pertinently, the local police and administration has taken notice and were quick to assure the citizens that action against those involved will be taken immediately.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has ordered formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the choti cutting incidents.

Videos of the demonstrations in Kulgam have become viral on social media as allegations made by the locals allege involvement of Army and the police.

“We nabbed two of them but the third one managed to flee. He alerted the army personnel at Devsar camp who arrived in the village. They fired some shots in the air and whisked away two of the culprits,” a protester told the Greater Kashmir.

“Yes, people are alleging that they caught hold of the braid-chopper. I have assured them that the incident would be investigated,” DC, Kulgam, Talat Ahmad told the Kashmir Life, a weekly magazine based in Srinagar. He added that he has directed the concerned SHO to take cognizance of the incident and start investigations.
