Nat Geo awardee Sajad Rafeeq holds workshop to guide aspiring photographers
Srinagar: A Photography Workshop by award winning photographer Sajad Rafeeq, aimed at imparting basic skills in Photography to amateur photographers, was held at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on October 14.
Over the past few years, photography, photojournalism and visual narratives have developed strong roots in Kashmir, and media professionals with award winning work have made a mark.
The session started with basics about the composition and photo making, followed by an interactive session on “How to Improve your Pictures”.
“My aim is to help people who are aspiring photographers and who need guidance in the field of Photography. A few years back there was no concept of Photography Workshops in Kashmir and now it is changing fast,” said Sajad Rafeeq.
Rafeeq, who is a Civil Engineer by profession, made his mark by winning the season 3 of the famed National Geographic Covershot. His work has been published in many international magazines and journals.
This year, the addition on the academic front of photography in major media colleges and universities in Kashmir was notable. A continuation of the same trend, the workshop held at NIT was comprehensive and detailed.
“To help amateurs and semi-professionals Rafeeq explained different techniques and helped clear confusion in the minds of aspiring photographers,” said Sajad Arif, a Neurosurgeon and a participant of the workshop.
There were approximately 40 participants including students, academicians, professionals and artists from different backgrounds. For those who did not own a camera, a section of mobile phone photography was designed.
“It was really great to be part of this event… there is always some thing to learn from any sort of experience provided you keep observing,” said S. A. Shah, an associate professor of Chemistry.
The session was of a duration of 3 hours and the participants were from different parts of Kashmir. Doctor Shakeel Shah, who is an active photographer was the guest of honor. Shah is the Ex Head of Department and the present Coordinator of the Department of Chemistry at NIT. The program was coordinated by Munaza Bhat.
The workshop ended with a vote of thanks to all the participants who were also given a participation certificate.
