Braid Chopping: Teenager injured after forces open fire to disperse protesters

Srinagar: A teenager identified as Arsalan was injured after the government forces opened fire to disperse protesters in the Nowgam area in the outskirts of the city.

Protests were taking place in the area against the braid chopping incidents in the valley.

The youth, who is 16 years old has been shifted to the SMHS hospital for treatment.

Sources and reports said that protests were being held near railway station in Machow against unabated incidents of braid chopping in Kashmir Valley.

They said that forces opened fire and lobbed teargas shells to disperse protesters who were pelting them with stones.

A complete shutdown was observed today after the Joint Resistance leadership had called for a strike and a civil curfew against the braid chopping incidents.

Restrictions were in place in various parts of the city as a ‘preventive measure’.
