Stop ads of newspapers that publish ‘anti-national’ articles: GoI tells JK Govt
New Delhi: ‘Stop advertising in newspapers which publish ‘anti-national’ articles’, is what the Home Ministry has told the Jammu and Kashmir Government, reported the Hindustan Times.
Without naming any newspaper, the ministry has told the state government that some publications were publishing “highly radicalised content glamorising terrorists and anti-national elements”.
In a letter, dated October 18, 2017, the Government of India has asked the local government to deal with such newspapers strictly. The letter has also been sent to the local police.
“It is understood that some newspapers in J&K are publishing highly radicalised content glamorising terrorists and anti-national elements. This is against the Constitution of India as well as the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The letter further says, “Publishing of anti-national articles in the newspapers of the state should be strictly dealt with. Such newspapers should also not be given any patronage by way of advertisements by the state government. This may be circulated to all concerned for strict compliance.”
During the 2016 uprising, publication of all newspapers was banned for three days. Moreover, a local daily Kashmir Reader was banned for publishing for more than three months by the Mehbooba Mufti lead government.
