Srinagar: To bring a sense of safety among the bikers in Srinagar city, Traffic police in Srinagar city has cracked down heavily upon the offenders, who have been violating traffic norms. The traffic police department has realized a fine of Rs 7, 78,584 in a short span of 13 days.
SSP Traffic, Srinagar, Tahir Saleem, said that 3,442 challans, including 2793 Compound Challans and 649 Court Challans were made in the past two weeks.
“Under a special drive launched last week, more than 400 two-wheelers have been seized and riders have been challaned for different traffic violations including visible offences like double pillion riding and not wearing helmet,” he said and added that more stringent measures will be adopted against the offenders.
He said that the Traffic Police expects cooperation from vehicle drivers and bikers. “Once they understand their responsibility, things will drastically change on the ground.”
“We have decided to take stern action those bikers and pillion riders who don’t wear safety gear. Every year scores of teenagers riding two wheelers without crash helmet and resorting to double pillion lose their precious lives,” he said and appealed to the parents to motivate their kids to wear crash helmets.
