Mughees killing: Malik arrested, Mirwaiz house detained, restrictions in the city

Srinagar: Mohammad Yasin Malik, Chairman of the JKLF was arrested and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of Hurriyat (M) was put under house arrest in wake of the militant killing at Zakura last night.

On Friday Mughees Ahmed Mir of Parimpora was killed in a gunfight at the outskirts of the city.

Mir, a resident of Parimpora, has suffered bullet injury in the Zakura shootout that also left a police officer dead.

In wake of his killing, strict restrictions have been put in place in the city to prevent protests.

“District Magistrate Srinagar has imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPc in Parimpora, Safa Kadal, M.R.Gunj, Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Maisuma and Kralkhud areas,” the police said.

All schools and colleges in the city were closed for the day. Classes at the Kashmir University were suspended.

Train services were also suspended.

According to the police, the slain militant was a member of the Al Qaeda affiliated group, Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. The group was launched in July. Zakir Musa, who was formerly with Hizbul Mujahideen, heads the outfit.

However, Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen owned the militant, saying that Mughees was the Pulwama district commander of the outfit.
