Amnesty to ‘so-called stone pelters’ a political stunt drafted in Nagpur: Geelani

Srinagar: Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Saturday while referring to the amnesty given to first time stone pelters said that its a mere political stunt which aims to label those pursuing the freedom movement as stone pelters.

In a statement, Geelani said, “It is a mere political stunt, drafted in Nagpur headquarters in a bid to label those pursuing freedom movement, as stone pelters.”

Geelani said Indian authorities and their ‘puppets’ in state feel annoyed and dejected when 2008 to 2016 people vehemently came on roads, resisted forced occupation and FIR’s were filed against thousands of youth and later a few were released against hefty ransoms.

“Thousands were arrested and despite court orders they were re-arrested,” said Geelani in the statement.

Blaming authorities in Delhi, puppet administration and judiciary for their apathetic and bias approach towards prisoners, Geelani said that these prisoners are meted out with ill treatment and their basic rights are denied and trampled.

“It is sheer violation of human rights. Those people in power corridors are ignorant about revolutionary politics, hence can’t feel the pain for those detained by them,” he said.

He strongly condemned the partial and biased approach of Indian leaders and said that instead of taking serious and sincere steps for resolution of Kashmir issue, they are treating it as a mere “law and order problem’’.

Geelani in his appeal to international organisations for human rights urged to take cognizance of rights violations, saying they should raise their voice for those facing state terror and added that people in state are the worst sufferers.
