SHRC directs Govt to pay compensation of Rs 3 lacs to Srinagar boy

‘Expenses on limb also be paid to him after every eight years’

Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) chairperson, Justice Bilal Nazki has directed the government to pay compensation Rs. 3.00 lakhs to a Srinagar boy who was hit by bullet and has lost his right leg in the year 2008.

According to the SHRC, a boy namely Mohammad Javed Pathan, son of Ghulam Mohammad, resident of Syedpora Eidgah Srinagar got critically injured due to bullet injury in his right leg, which was later amputated.

“He had lost his right leg below the hip that means he lost the leg along with knee joint and it is difficult for him to live a normal life. The boy submits that artificial limb available with NGO’s did not suit him and he is forced to purchase the same from open market which costs more than 2.5 lakh and the age the limb is not more than eight years,” the SHRC said.

While seeing the pathetic physical condition of the boy, the chairperson directed the government to pay compensation Rs. 3.00 lakhs to the petitioner (Boy) and the expenses on the limb also paid to him after every eight years.

The order is directed to be sent Commissioner Secretary Home J&K State who shall file Action Taken Report within a period of two months.
