National Front appeals to the Bar Council to visit Tihar jail

Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir National Front has appealed the Kashmir High Court Bar Association to visit the Tihar jail, Delhi to know the plight of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in the infamous jail under inhuman and unhygienic conditions.

Expressing serious concern over the plight of Kashmiri prisoners including its chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, the Front Deputy Chairman, Altaf Ahmad Wani has stressed upon the lawyer’s body to visit the jail.

“We appeal Bar Association to take cognizance of the appalling reports about the Kashmiri prisoners lodged in Tihar jail,” Wani said in a statement.

He said that continuous lodgement in Tihar jail under inhuman and unhygienic conditions have put the lives of all Kashmiri prisoners including Nayeem Amad Khan in danger.

He said that prolonging Nayeem Khan and other’s incarceration in the infamous Tihar jail is the most undemocratic way to silence the political opponents. He expressed serious concern over the failing health of Nayeem Khan who has developed several ailments in the jail and is not being provided any sort of medical aid.

Talking about the Kashmiri prisoners in other Indian jails, Altaf Ahmad Wani said that Kashmiris have to face not only the hardships of jails but also the cruelty of jail authorities. Even the criminals of the said jails think that troubling Kashmiri political prisoners is their right.

He stressed upon immediate shifting of all Kashmiri prisoners to the valley to ensure their safety. Stating that New Delhi is using cruel tactics against the genuine political leadership of Kashmiri people, he said that New Delhi is using its institutions to revenge the leaders like Nayeem Khan in one or the other pretext.
