Report about discrimination with Kashmiris mischievous, says Police Chief

Srinagar: A day after media reports that Jammu Kashmir’s Police’s demography is being changed and the axe is falling on Kashmir valley, Pir Panjal region, Chenab Valley and Kashmir’s cold desert region of Ladakh, Director General of Police Shesh Paul Ved while terming the reports ‘mischievous’ has said that only state subjects can get employment in J&K Police.

Media reports reveal that in the name of giving preference to border districts, J&K Police has discriminated with the Pir Panjal region, Kashmir valley and Ladakh in its latest recruitment drive of constables.

“While 704 persons have been recruited from Jammu district alone, the recruitment share of the twin border districts of Pir Panjal region – Poonch and Rajouri together is only 491 and of the entire cold desert region of Ladakh comprising border districts of Kargil and Leh districts is only 118.”

“While 704 persons have been recruited from Jammu district, even less than its half, only 328 persons were recruited from Srinagar district, 39 Schedule Caste candidates being from Jammu,” the report reveals.

The link of the news report was shared by Congress leader Salman Anees Soz on his Twitter handle.

“Perhaps Director General @spvaid has an explanation. He is aware that we want inclusive development in J&K, as in other parts of the country,” Soz tweeted.

Jammu Kashmir Police Chief replied twice to the tweet and wrote: “Only state subjects can get employment in J&K Police, they are citizens of the state & are mandated to work anywhere in the state. Please don’t mislead people.”

“It’s mischievous reporting as vacancies are allocated district wise,” he concluded.
