JRL shutdown call: Restrictions imposed in city parts, Malik arrested

Srinagar: In wake of the shutdown call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership, authorities imposed restrictions in various parts of the city to prevent protests.

As usual, prohibitory orders were imposed in Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R.Gunj and Safakadal in old Srinagar and Maisuma and Kralkhud in uptown areas by the Srinagar District Magistrate.

However the authorities added that Essential services, government employees, bank staff, students appearing for examinations and the invigilator staff for such exams are exempted from the restrictions.

Heavy deployments of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been made to maintain law and order at sensitive places in the city.

Educational institutions, including universities, colleges and schools are closed in the Kashmir Valley due to winter vacations.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Yasin Malik was arrested on Saturday and taken to the central jail. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was put under house detention on Friday. Syed Ali Shah countinues to be under house arrest.
