‘Cordon and Search Ops reaching Srinagar amid worrisome security scenario merit attention’

Srinagar: The opposition national conference on Wednesday termed the security scenario in Kashmir worrisome and asked government to ensure adequate security measures ahead of going to conduct the Panchayat polls in the state.

Former Home Minister and NC’s Provincial President, Nasir Aslam Wani said that the security scenario in the state is worsening with each passing day and that government is maintaining a stoic silence over such a worrisome trend.

Wani said that the reflection of the deteriorating situation could be gauged by the fact that even now CASOs have reached Srinagar with fear dominating the scenes all across. “If the government wants to conduct the panchayat polls in the state, it has to ensure adequate security for all otherwise, the situation is turning nasty with each passing day,” Nasir said.

He stated further that amid the recent statement of the state police chief that police cannot provide security to everyone during Panchayat polls, the confusion is prevailing over the scenes which merit government’s immediate attention.

“Rather than beating the trumpet of polls in the state, the government should ensure security for all and make itself accountable to what it has so far done for the democratic institutions to prosper in the state,” Wani said.

In the last panchayat polls in 2011, the participation was around 79%, the tenure of which expired in July 2016. For two years, the government couldn’t conduct elections due to the political unrest.
