Gruesome murder of 8-year-old girl a slap on Government: Tarigami

Why didn’t police take prompt action when the family of the victim approached them?

Jammu: While blaming the authorities for not making enough efforts to trace the nomadic girl in Kathua after she was abducted, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Saturday said the gruesome murder of a tender soul is a slap on this Government, which has entirely failed to safeguard its citizens.

In a statement, he said as per the Government, the victim girl was first abducted and then the accused attempted to rape her and when she resisted, he strangled her.

“Why didn’t police take prompt action when the family of the victim approached them? If police had taken timely action, the precious life of an eight-year-old girl could have been saved,” Tarigami said.

He added that the police officers responsible for dereliction of duty must be punished so that in future police takes concrete steps in such incidents.

“The suspension of local SHO over the issue can’t restore the shaken confidence of the people. If a little girl is not safe, how can any woman feel so in the state? asked Tarigami.

The statement also pointed out, “As per the reports the victim was held captive for one week in the middle of the village. Why didn’t police take any action all these days? It is also possible the accused alone has not done this heinous crime without involvement of other goons. There should be no compromise in providing justice to the victim family.”
