Srinagar: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday expressed deep grief and sorrow on the murder of youth in Shopian.

In a statement, KCCI expressed surprise over the the announcement of a magisterial probe given all previous probes yielded no results.

“Unfortunately there is impunity with no accountability. We are surprised that the state government has announced a magisterial probe whereas all previous probes have had no results,” they said in the statement.

While taking on National Conference the Chamber said that the opposition had asked for arrest of army personnel while as in their tenure similar killings took place. They also condemned the statement of BJP lawmaker Ravinder Raina, who said that the Army did the right thing by opening fire.

“We strongly condemn the irresponsible statement of Ravinder Raina which gives encouragement to the elements in the security forces in indulging in inhuman killings of innocent people,” the statement said.

They also added in the statement that till there’s accountability of killings by any government this circle of unending innocent killings will not stop.

“It is high time to mend ways & join up for stopping all such killings irrespective of the political association one has,” the statement concluded.

Two civilians were killed and six others injured after Indian Army opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora hamlet of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

Reports said that army personnel arrived at Ganowpora village to remove a banner. As the army tried to remove the banner, a group of youth pelted stones on them.

The army according to eyewitnesses retaliated with firing. Witnesses added that army fired upon youth directly resulting in the injuries of at least 11 persons.
