The money will be invested in 108 small development projects in different parts of the country.

An agreement was signed between Indian Ambassador to Kabul Manpreet Vohra and Afghan officials on Tuesday based on which India will provide $100 million USD for 108 small development projects in Afghanistan. Education and health sectors will be included in the 108 projects, officials told Kabul based TOLO News.

There should be no delay in the implementation of the projects, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said at the signing ceremony of the agreement. He said India’s help will have a positive impact on people’s lives in the country. “India wants peace and stability in Afghanistan,” Abdullah said.

He pointed to cross-Durand Line incursion by Pakistan and said “(some) countries – in the region – cannot achieve anything by firing missiles and suicide attacks”. Abdullah said those countries which claim they want friendly relations with Afghanistan “must show it in practice”.

This comes weeks after the first consignment of more than 2,400 tons of wheat from India arrived in Kabul. It is part of at least 30,000 tons of wheat so far shipped to Afghanistan through Chabahar Port in Iran.

In December, Afghan Women Cadets had undergone training in India. Women cadets had said that the training in India was crucial because Afghanistan does not have much space for learning military skills. A batch of 20 women who serve in the Afghan National Army are receiving military training in India’s southern Tamil Nadu state.

The United States too is redeploying its troops from an American-led coalition base in Iraq to Afghanistan following the defeat of Deash in the country, Fox News had reported. The Pentagon had told the US Congress in December that India is Afghanistan’s most reliable regional partner and the largest contributor of development assistance in the region.
