Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of Hurriyat (M) on Wednesday touted the newly constructed gateway to the Downtown Srinagar as a ‘cosmetic measure’.
The gate has been constructed near Baba Dawoodi Khaki bridge and has been named Bab-ul-Iqbal.
Taking to the micro blogging site twitter, Mirwaiz said that the people who have been subjugated to oppression for decades cannot be lured by such measures. He also added that these ‘cosmetic measures’ will fulfill nothing if the basic issue is not addressed.
“Attracting“people to downtown by building some gateway, while for decades resorting to revengeful and dictatorial measures of repeatedly subjecting its residents to curfews, restrictions, harassment and what not! cosmetic measures without addressing basic issue will not yield much https://t.co/V5ZNiDg4xk
