Third militant killed in Hakoora encounter was from Telengana, says Police

Srinagar: One of the three miliatants killed in the gun fight in Hakoora has been identified as Mohammed Toufeeq of Manuguru area of Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana, reported the Indian Express. 

The Telengana Police said that the 26-year old about a year ago to join Ansar ul Gazwat ul Hind, the Al-Qaida affiliate operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

There are no cases registered against him Telengana. “We have very sketchy details (about him). We are trying to trace his family,” Bhadradri Kothagudem’s Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishore Jha told the Indian Express.

The cops also mentioned that Toufeeq got ‘radicalized through social media.’

J&K Police had identified two of the militants killed as Mohammad Eisa Fazili (22) of Soura, Srinagar, and Syed Owais Shafi (22) of Kokernag, Anantnag, and the third as a foreigner.

On Tuesday evening, Al Nasr, which some believe is the news bulletin of Ansar ul Gazwat ul Hind, said that the third militant was from Telangana and identified him as Mohammad Toufeeq.

Posts on social media said that he could be Abu Zarar Al Hindi, a resident of Hyderabad. Abu Zarar Al Hindi was Toufeeq’s assumed name among the militant ranks, sources said.

The police buried the body — of the militant now identified as Toufeeq — as unidentified at Gantmulla, in Baramulla district, where foreign militants killed in encounters are buried.

A shutdown for three consecutive days was observed in Srinagar, especially in the Soura and adjoining areas after Eisa Fazili’s killing. Thousands of people showed up at his funeral despite restrictions in the city.

The Resistance leaders were put under house arrest in order to prevent protests in the city.

Hurriyat (M) chairman Syed Ali Geelani while paying tributes to the slain militants said that Fazili was a ‘Passionate warrior and very close to him.

“Esa Fazili was very close to me, a passionate warrior and often visited my residence. His commitment towards freedom mission was exemplary and served as a moral precedence. He was very thoughtful about the prevailing situation and his commitment with his mission was praiseworthy, Geelani said in a statement.
