Two Kashmiri students in Bhopal harassed, pressured to vacate accommodation: JKSA

TRUBA Institute of Pharmacy

Bhopal: Two Kashmiri students pursuing pharmacy studies in Bhopal are allegedly facing continued harassment, intimidation and pressure to vacate their paying-guest accommodation, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) said.

According to the association, the students are enrolled at TRUBA Institute of Pharmacy and were admitted under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS). Although hostel accommodation was allotted to them under the scheme, the college currently does not have hostel facilities, forcing the students to stay in a paying-guest accommodation at Shanti Homes Colony in Korand Gandhi Nagar since last year.

The JKSA alleged that members of the local colony or society and other individuals have been pressuring the landlord to evict the students because they are from Kashmir and are Muslims.

The association further claimed that the landlord was warned that individuals would forcibly enter the premises and remove the students if they were not evicted immediately.

According to the JKSA, the alleged harassment has left the students fearful of leaving their accommodation, travelling or attending college.

The students reportedly approached the college authorities seeking assistance and intervention, but the association alleged that they did not receive meaningful help.

The JKSA said the students have been left uncertain about their safety and accommodation, and urged the concerned authorities to intervene to ensure that they can continue their education without fear or intimidation.

The association stressed that no student should face threats, harassment or eviction on the basis of their religion, identity or place of origin.
