Gunfight in Sunderbani Rajouri ends, four militants killed

Rajouri: Four militants were killed in a fierce gunfight in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.

Director General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid in a tweet while confirming the killing of four militants said that this group recently infiltrated from Line of Control.

The gunfight between militants and the government forces started on early Wednesday morning while in wake of encounter, authorities had closed all the schools.

A police official said that the gunfight began Wednesday morning in Ravarian Talla village, around one kilometre from Sunderbani township, after militants opened fire on a search party of the forces.

During the massive exchange of fire, four militants were killed while arms and ammunition recovered from the spot.

While speaking to reporters near the site of the gunfight, SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas said that at least four militants had been surrounded by the forces who were then killed. Before the gunfight, the forces recovered bags containing ammunition and explosive material during searches in the area.
