Mehbooba visits slain Kangan youth’s family, ‘assures’ them of justice

Srinagar: Mehbooba Mufti, Chief Minister of JK on Thursday visited the family of Gowhar Ahmed Rather who was killed due to a fire arm injury to his head on Tuesday.

Amid tension in town, Mehbooba reached the house of the victim and spent around half an hour with the family and assured the that justice will be done.

She consoled the family and ensured them that justice will be served in the case,” an official said.

Earlier the police had claimed that Rather got injured during a police chase when he fell into a drain and injured his head. However the hospital authorities say that the slain youth had suffered a firearm injury in his head.

Following the death, a departmental enquiry was ordered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

“Consequent upon his prima facia involvement in case FIR No. 18/2018 u/s 307 RPC Selection Grade Constable Gulzar Ahmad (belt no. 422/Gbl) is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending enquiry,” reads an order issued by the SSP.

A magisterial enquiry has also been ordered into the killing of the youth.
