Kathua rape-murder: At least 14, including students injured in Shopian during clashes

At least 14 people, including students were injured during clashes in Shopian district on Thursday after they hit the streets in protest against the brutal gang rape and murder of the minor Kathua girl.

Reports said that the protesters pelted the forces with stones who responded by firing pellets and tear gas shells.
They said that the students after coming out of coaching centres clashed with the forces near Jamia Masjid Shopian.

Reports of clashes were also received from Safa Kadal area of Srinagar. They said that minor clashed erupted in the area. However, the situation is normal now.

The protests occurred despite the authorities suspending class work in educational institutions at many places in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Anantnag districts.

After violent protests at over a dozen places on Wednesday, authorities had taken precautionary measures to avoid a face off between the agitating students and the forces.

Students have been protesting against the case since a week and the authorities are struggling to keep educational institutions functional on a daily basis.
