SSB constable hospitalized after he shoots self in Pattan

Amreet Singh, a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) constable on Saturday was hospitalized after he shot himself a camp in Pattan area of Baramulla district.

According to the news agency UNI, the incident took place on Friday night. Singh was shifted to SKIMS Soura for treatment. Forces’ personnel rushed to his room after hearing sound of a gunshot and found Singh lying in a pool of blood, it said.

Recently the Union Home Ministry told a parliamentary panel that nearly 700 Central Armed Police Forces have committed suicide in the last six years, which is more than the number of personnel killed in action.

The reasons include “lack of stability, loneliness and domestic strife”, senior officials of the ministry, led by the Union home secretary, told the Parliament’s Committee on Estimates, headed by senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi.
