Traders’ march towards Civil Secretariat foiled by police

The Business Community of the valley on Monday tried to march towards the civil secretariat to the protest the killings which took place on Sunday in Shopian. However, the police stopped the rallying traders at Residency road.

The protesters represented the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation and were led by their President Mohammad Yaseen Khan.

The rally was organized as part of Joint Resistance Leadership programme asking people to march towards secretariat on its opening day.

The protesters raised pro-justice slogans and held banners which read “Down with state terrorism”, “Stop genocide of Kashmiris” and “Stop innocent killings in the name of operation all-out”.

While taking to reporters, Khan said the traders are ready to suffer any losses but cannot tolerate “excesses on innocent people”.

“Government has been misleading the world by portraying that problems in Kashmir are a result of unemployment and lack of opportunities for the youth. This is a false propaganda as they have been proven wrong now. By coming out on roads we want to convey a message to the entire world about sufferings of common Kashmiris,” said Khan, who also heads Kashmir Economic Alliance.

As the Durbar opened amid an internet blockade in the valley, Mehbooba Mufti, after receiving the traditional guard of honour, while reacting to the killings said, “Allah has sent us to Earth to live a good life. Islam doesn’t permit us to embrace death at this [young] age.”
