Its’a cosmetic measure, say Mirwaiz, Malik about Ramzan ceasefire

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the Hurriyat (M) and JKLF Chief Mohammad Yasin Malik have termed the Ramzan ceasefire announced by New Delhi a ‘cosmetic measure.’

Earlier, speaking during a seminar ‘Responsibility of Leadership in Safeguarding the Sanctity of Martyrdom’, Malik had said that Hartals (shutdowns) are a compulsion, however the leadership is working to find an alternative strategy of protest.

On Wednesday, the Government of India said that the armed forces will not launch operations during the holy month. However, the ministry of Home Affairs added that the forces reserve the ‘right to retaliate or if essential to protect the lives of innocent people.’

The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti welcomed the ceasefire and thanked Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Modi for their personal intervention.

However Al Umar Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba have rejected the Ramzan ceasefire initiative.
