Srinagar: Kashmir premiere trade body, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) has condemned the use of force on worshipers during Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid.

“The government Forces have fired pellets into the Masjid injuring hundreds of men and women. The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry fails to understand as to what forces the state administration to deploy government forces at a place of worship where a large number of people gathered peacefully to offer prayers,” the spokesman in a statement said.

“Deployment of government Forces, however, paves way for their confrontation for any trifle issue during the movement of people in the Masjid area,” the statement reads.

The Chamber in a statement would, therefore, urge the state administration to ensure that the Security Forces are no more deployed in the close vicinity Jamia Masjid to avoid confrontation which leads to death and lethal injuries.

At least 20 people sustained pellet injuries after forces fired pellets and tear gas shells inside the Jamia Masjid on Friday.

Intense clashes erupted between the forces and youth after the Friday congregational prayers at the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

When thousands were getting ready to offer the Friday prayers, armed forces could be seen surrounding the Masjid and alleys leading to it.

After the sermon given by the Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in which social issues and the situation risen by the apprehension of Major Gogoi with a girl in a hotel were raised, peace in the mosque turned into chaos when forces fired teargas shells and pellets in and outside the mosque.
