Afghan Forces ‘mistakenly kill’ 9 civilians, Govt says will ‘seriously’ investigate the incident

Afghan Forces have ‘mistakenly’ killed nine civilians and eight others were wounded during a night raid in Eastern Nangarhar province. Provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat says today that eight other civilians were wounded in the raid late last night in Chaparhar district.

Hayat said a local police commander was among the dead. He said gunfire had been coming from the house that was raided, but the casualties were identified as mostly civilians once the operation ended.

TOLO News reported that a delegation has been assigned by the central government to ‘seriously’ investigate the incident.

“Nine civilians including a local police commander and relatives of the Senate chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar and eight others were wounded,” provincial governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khoghyani Khoghyani said, adding that ‘a woman and a girl are among the wounded.’

The Taliban has claimed that all the victims are relatives of Senate Chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar.
