‘They burned hay around the house and poured kerosene on exits to burn the family inside’

Srinagar: A video clip surfaced on social media on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in which the family of a militant, Adil Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Hassan Dar, a resident of Gudibagh, Kakapora, were seen trying to douse out flames.

The locals and the family accuse the army of attempting to burn down their house by burning stubble around their house, and pouring kerosene oil on the exits. The family alleges that the attack was carried out by 50 RR camp Kakapora Pulwama.

According to the locals, on Wednesday morning, while passing through the area, the army captured images of Adil Ahmad Dar’s house to ‘map the area before putting their plans to work’.

“We were sleeping and a strange smell woke us up. We saw masked men throwing kerosene on the doors and windows,” says a cousin of Dar who was present in the house.

“We rushed to wake up the father of Adil, but massive flames erupted in the house,” he said, adding that, they raised the alarm after which the army men left the place as neighbours rushed to the spot.

“The fire was doused off quickly due to the efforts of people, but the attackers retrieved while abusing the family loudly, saying that their son carried out the attack in which one army man was killed,” says a local, “it seemed like a plan to punish the family and to burn down the house with the inmates.”

Residents of Kakapora Pulwama held a protest demonstration against the act the next day.
