‘Community issues have remained unaddressed for years now’

Srinagar: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has decided not to meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh who arrived here today on a two day visit to the state. The Committee has said that there is no fun in meeting the Home Minister since the community issues have remained unaddressed for years now.

In a statement, APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said that ever since Rajnath Singh took over as Home Minister the Committee met him five times with the expectation that the issues being faced by Sikh community would be looked into. He said that since no headway has been made in this regard there is no fun in meeting the Home Minister yet again.

“During the four year rule of BJP led NDA government at the centre not a single step has been taken for the welfare and development of Sikhs living in the state. In such a scenario what is the logic in meeting the Home Minister. Our repeated requests have fallen on deaf ears and there is no scope for further meeting as on date,” said Raina.

The APSCC Chairman said that Government of India and the state government are well aware about the demands of Sikh community living in Jammu & Kashmir. He said that the PDP-BJP government in the state has also failed the Sikh community despite the fact that both the parties won in 2014 assembly elections due to the unflinching support from Sikhs in many constituencies.

“It is unfortunate that every package announced by Government of India or for that matter the state government is aimed to please the Kashmiri Pandit community. We are not against this community or for that matter any other community but giving privileges to other community at the cost of Sikh community is totally uncalled for and unjustified as well,” said Raina.

The APSCC Chairman lamented that Government of India has failed to break the logjam in the state on the political front with no end to bloodshed in sight in the Kashmir valley. He demanded that adequate confidence building measures need to be taken so that peace returns to Jammu & Kashmir especially Kashmir valley.
