After Major Leetul Gogoi was seen with a local Kashmiri woman in a Srinagar hotel on May 23, the Army’s Court of Inquiry will likely indict the officer with disciplinary action, sources told Indian Express.
Sources stated that the CoI’s findings have been disclosed to XV Corps for further analysis. The CoI, sources said, indicted Major Gogoi guilty on at least two counts: being away from the place of duty while on active service in an operational area and for violating the official Army policy on fraternising with a local woman “source”.
A Major General has recommended the CoI’s findings which anticipate the XV Corps Commander’s approval. Once the approval arrives, the concerned authorities would frame charges against the officer.
Major Leetul Gogoi, who used a civilian Farooq Ahmed Dar as a human shield, was apprehended by the police with a girl in a hotel in Srinagar.
The police in its statement has said that an army officer, a woman, and another civilian were apprehended after they got a call from Hotel Grand Mamta in Dalgate.
CJM’s response came in the backdrop of the petition filed by International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK Chairman Muhammad Ahsan Untoo who had prayed that directions be given to non-applicants to furnish a report with respect the case.
The petitioner has said that the action of the Army Major has offended the sentiments of the common people in Kashmir.
