Major Gogoi who was caught in Hotel with minor to face disciplinary action: Report

After Major Leetul Gogoi was seen with a local Kashmiri woman in a Srinagar hotel on May 23, the Army’s Court of Inquiry will likely indict the officer with disciplinary action, sources told Indian Express.

Sources stated that the CoI’s findings have been disclosed to XV Corps for further analysis. The CoI, sources said, indicted Major Gogoi guilty on at least two counts: being away from the place of duty while on active service in an operational area and for violating the official Army policy on fraternising with a local woman “source”.

A Major General has recommended the CoI’s findings which anticipate the XV Corps Commander’s approval. Once the approval arrives, the concerned authorities would frame charges against the officer.

Major Leetul Gogoi, who used a civilian Farooq Ahmed Dar as a human shield, was apprehended by the police with a girl in a hotel in Srinagar.

The police in its statement has said that an army officer, a woman, and another civilian were apprehended after they got a call from Hotel Grand Mamta in Dalgate.

CJM’s response came in the backdrop of the petition filed by International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK Chairman Muhammad Ahsan Untoo who had prayed that directions be given to non-applicants to furnish a report with respect the case.

The petitioner has said that the action of the Army Major has offended the sentiments of the common people in Kashmir.

A court of inquiry was ordered by the Army against Major Leetul Gogoi who was detained by the police along with a local girl at a Srinagar hotel.

“Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry against Major Gogoi of 53 Rashtriya Rifles regarding an incident that occurred on May 23. If found guilty, appropriate action would be taken against him,” Defence Ministry spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia told IANS.

Sources also told IANS that Gogoi’s commanding officer is being shifted out for alleged lack of command and control over his subordinates. They also said that Gogoi has been taken off from field duties and attached to headquarters till the completion of the inquiry.
