North Korean President Kim Jong Un renewed his commitment to full denuclearisation after the September summit between South Korea and North Korea was announced, AFP reported.

South Korean National Security Advisor Chung Eui-yong informed reporters that the two leaders would meet in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang to discuss “practical measures to denuclearise” the peninsula on September 18-20.

Chung had met Kim earlier on Wednesday to hand in a personal letter from South Korean President Moon Jae-in, wherein Kim had then renewed his commitment to denuclearization, North Korean state media had reported on Thursday.

Both countries “should further their efforts to realise the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula”, KCNA quoted Kim saying. “It is our fixed stand… to completely remove the danger of armed conflict and horror of war from the Korean peninsula and turn it into the cradle of peace without nuclear weapons and free from nuclear threat.”

Kim had insisted that his “trust in Trump remains unchanged” despite the difficulties, Chung said, and had expressed that he wanted to work closely with the US to achieve denuclearisation “in the first official term of President Trump.”

Reacting to Kim’s words, U.S President Donald Trump tweeted:

“Kim Jong Un of North Korea proclaims “unwavering faith in President Trump.” Thank you to Chairman Kim. We will get it done together!”
