At the BJP national executive meet in New Delhi, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, in his valedictory speech, coined a new term for the upcoming 2019 elections, “Ajay Bharat, Atal Bhajpa.” The term is an ode to late former prime minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He said the phrase stands for “an India which is not to be subjugated by anyone and BJP which remains firmly committed to its principle”. He described Vajpayee as ‘a sun in the sky’ and said that the rest of them would have to become ‘little stars’ to carry his ideas in the future.

He criticized the Opposition’s ‘Mahagathbandhan’ and pointed out how those without any ideological similarity are willing to come together to defeat them. He stated that even small parties would have a problem accepting the Congress’ leadership in the alliance.

He agreed that there was a need for a capable Opposition in democracy. However, those who failed in the government also failed as the Opposition, he said. He slammed the Opposition parties for dwelling on lies rather than taking up real issues.

He said that the government will hit back at the Opposition’s falsehood through “the great work we have done in four years”.

He said that his party sought power for the people, rather than for sitting on the chair. He said it had been possible to rule in Gujarat for 31 years because they were not power-hungry.

BJP President Amit Shah, in his speech, said he was confident about his party’s performance in 2019 general elections and said that once it wins, it will stay 50 years in power. He said that his party’s performance had led him to make such a confident conclusion.

Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working hard and a lot of developmental work has been done by the government which will eventually lead them to victory. He pointed out how his party had never relaxed ever since their ascent to the governmental seats.
