Clashes erupt after forces launch search operation in Shopian

Residents of the Shirmal village of Shopian district clashed with armed forces after they launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

Reports said that the government forces laid a siege around the Shirmal village early Saturday morning.

As the forces started door-to-door searches, scores of residents came out of their homes and pelted them with stones to disrupt the operation. The forces, according to reports, fired tear gas to quell the protests.

According to reports at least six people have been injured in the clashes.

A day after suspected militants killed three cops, armed forces on Saturday launched a massive cordon and search operation in over half a dozen villages in Pulwama district.

A joint team of Army’s 55RR, 53RR, 23 Para, SOG and CRPF’s 182,183 BN launched cordon and search operation in more than half a dozen villages of the district early morning.

Reports said that the forces launched door-to-door searches in Lassipora, Armula, Alaipura, Batnur, Garbug, Naupora Payeen, Hajdarpora and Achan areas of the district.
