WhatsApp appointed Komal Lahiri as the Grievance Officer of India after the Supreme Court of India slammed it for its delay in appointment, IANS reported.

Lahiri can be contacted via email and general post by over 200 million users in the country. She is based out of WhatsApp’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

“To contact the Grievance Officer, please send an email with your complaint or concern and sign with an electronic signature. If you’re contacting us about a specific account, please include your phone number in full international format, including the country code,” said the FAQ under the security and privacy settings.

“You can contact the Grievance Officer with complaints or concerns, including the following: WhatsApp’s Terms of Service and Questions about your account,” read the information.

“If you’re a law enforcement official, please read our information for law enforcement authorities and how you can contact us,” it added.

Earlier, SC issued a notice to the government of India and messaging app WhatsApp on Monday after a plea, filed by Centre for Accountability and Systemic Change, alleged that the latter did not comply with the provision of appointing a grievance officer and other laws of India.

The plea was heard by a bench of Justices R F Nariman and Indu Malhotra, which asked the bench to restrain WhatsApp from proceeding with its payment systems unless it fully complies with provisions of the Reserve Bank of India.

The move comes after WhatsApp CEO Chris Daniels was told by the IT Minister of India to implement three measures. “You must have a grievance system in India and a whole system where people can reach you immediately. Secondly, you must have proper compliance with Indian laws. We will not appreciate a scenario where any problem that has risen is answered to only in America. Thirdly, WhatsApp having become an important component of India’s digital story must have a proper corporate entity located in India. He assured that the company will soon follow these. He said that we are working with law enforcement agencies to develop a system,” he said.
